I've got an article (which hopefully should be updated on my site regularly) for anti-virus software's that work on Vista.

The beta newsgroups are more for developers, not end users.

Can someone clue me in on how "public" we should be? It appears to me as though details of 5270 are appropriate for public discussion, at least here. I'd be glad to join in where I know something, that's why I'm here, but I am a little fuzzy on the pedigree of the "publicness" of this discussion--i.e. how is this build available? Is it, for example distributed in MSDN or Technet? (I should know this, but haven't tracked the detail.)

It seems to me that builds that are distributed via MSDN or Technet are public--anyone with sufficient dinero can buy those.
I just want to be sure I'm discussing the right builds in the right places. --

You said "This group is for bleeding edge consumers and early business adopters." That is not the same as "Windows Vista in its current state, BETA 1 or 2 is for bleeding edge consumers and early business adopters" You seem to be confusing Windows Vista and the newsgroups. They are not the same and the audience for each is different. This group is for everyone, a far larger group of people than that line suggests. Perhaps you meant "Bleeding edge consumers and early business adopters are the most likely participants of this newsgroup"

I would think, by looking at the placement of these groups, and the fact that anyone can view them, that these groups are going to be the defacto place to go after Windows Vista has gone gold.
I can't see Microsoft dissolving these news groups and setting up a new set. They may clear out the server cash to start fresh, but they likely won't even do that. They will just allow them to roll off the servers according to the time frame they have in place at the time (30 days, 60 days - who knows)
But then, I have been wrong before!

I will say this One More Time: Do Not Install Avast 4.6 Professional Edition on Windows Vista Builds 5231 CTP or 5270 CTP! It Does Not Work! It will completely Freeze Up your Computer! You will then have to Clean Install!

Didn't work that way on my computer, Zack. I just did an uninstall and everything was once more hunky-dory.

Well Nancy, the last time I installed Avast on Build 5270, I was completely unable to open up anything on my computer, including Add / Remove Programs.

I have been recommending the free edition which I have been using and have no issues with. P.S. I have previously mentioned this in the MSDN Windows Vista Developer's Newsgroups, and have now repeated this post here for everyone to see, considering the fact that Andre, Jabez, and Zack, did not warn you guys about this problem.

Same here; the only difference I see is that I was able to uninstall and you weren't.

And don't forget the infamous BitTorrent (or was it BitComet I saw somewhere else in the other Vista newsgroup?)

It seems to me that builds that are distributed via MSDN or Technet are public--anyone with sufficient dinero can buy those.
I just want to be sure I'm discussing the right builds in the right places. --
"Andre Da Costa" wrote in message The only way you can get Vista outside of the BETA Programme is through a MSDN or Technet subscription, so in a way its not available to the general population.

"Jupiter Jones [MVP]" wrote in message Andre; I never stated you said a "badword", "hate" or "tell anyone to shutup". I also did not say "fool" or "talk non-sense" Those all are your own ideas. Please do not make it seem like I suggested any of those.

"several of your posts may seem to a visitor that everyone is not welcome here." So saying the above is very, very out of context. I am repeating what I have read from horses mouth, Windows Vista in its current state, BETA 1 or 2 is for bleeding edge consumers and early business adopters. Its up to whoever visits here to decide whether they are a bleeding edge consumers or early business adopter. And until the product reaches RTM, these newsgroups will remain that way, but I agree, asking questions about the product is not a problem. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm
